The Tiltable SMD Back Light solves a problem the standard Back Light cannot: a fixed-direction ambient fixture that needs to change orientation after the ceiling is finished. A standard Back Light directs its 120° beam straight down from the track, which is correct for most ambient applications but wrong the moment the design intent shifts to washing a wall or bouncing light off the ceiling for an indirect glow. Rather than specifying a separate wall-washer fixture for that job, the Tiltable version does both from the same track position — rotated to 0° it behaves exactly like a standard Back Light, rotated to 90° it becomes a wall wash, rotated to 180° it becomes an uplight. The adjustment is physical, not electronic — no app, no dimmer, just a mechanism that holds its position once set.
The W28mm body is 6mm wider than the standard W22mm Back Light series to accommodate the tilt mechanism, which is the one dimensional tradeoff for the added flexibility. For permanent, single-direction ambient lighting where that flexibility will never be used, the standard SMD Back Light is the more compact and slightly simpler specification.

What does the 180° tilt actually let me do that a fixed Back Light cannot?
The fixture rotates from straight-down ambient (0°) through a horizontal wall-wash position (90°) to a fully upward indirect uplight (180°), locking wherever it's set. This lets one fixture serve three different lighting roles depending on how it's oriented, without needing to specify a separate wall washer or uplight fixture for the same track run.
The mechanism itself is a simple friction or detent hinge at the mounting point rather than any motorised or electronic tilt — meaning the adjustment is instant, requires no power cycle or app interaction, and holds its position purely through mechanical resistance strong enough to stay put under normal vibration but light enough to reposition by hand without tools.
Does adjusting the tilt require any electrical work or power cycling?
No. The tilt mechanism is purely mechanical — a friction hinge that holds position once set. Adjusting it is a physical action only, with no need to power down the circuit, use an app, or involve any electronic control.
