Do I need both the Hanging Set and the Hanging Tube, or does one include the other?

Both are needed for a complete pendant installation. The Hanging Set (T20-A) provides the ceiling anchor and connection point; the Hanging Tube Scalable (T20L) sets the drop length from that point to the track. They are sold separately because the tube length varies by ceiling height while the ceiling fixing itself does not change.

The load path through this connection runs from every fixture on the pendant track, through the tube, into the set, and into the ceiling structure itself — which is why the fixing points are engineered for the combined weight of a fully loaded track, not just the tube and empty track alone. Confirming ceiling structural capacity at the proposed mounting point is worth doing before installation, particularly for longer pendant tubes or heavily fixtured runs.

Does the ceiling structure need any special preparation before fitting this?

For standard residential pendant installations with typical fixture loads, a securely fixed point into solid ceiling structure — joist, concrete slab, or an appropriately rated false-ceiling fixing point — is sufficient. For longer tubes or unusually dense fixture loading, confirm the structural capacity at that specific point before installation.
